August Gemunder and Sons "Excelsior" violin. Ca. 1880. Normal playing wear. One stable repaired crack in top. No bass bar or sound post cracks. Professionally set up. Perfect neck angle, fingerboard radius, etc. Powerful projection. Very even across the strings. Excellent woods. Sold with copy of Gemunder ad from 1880s showing this model priced at $50. Great sounding Bulgarian viola by one of the greatest award wining luthiers-Naiden Ganchev--Gold medalist from Violin Society of America competition in California and others in Cremona, Poland, Salt Lake City. The viola was made in 1975 and is 15 inch.It has great timbre. I made several recordings with it and played for Yuri Bashmet's master class and he liked it very much.I recently bought bigger one and this one has to go. It comes with fine Jas Tubbs viola bow. I am asking $8000 for the set but am also willing to sell them separately.
