American violin, labeled S. Hastings, West Suffield, 1895. Reddish brown varnish, golden yellow oil base. Birdseye maple back, spruce top, one glued crack near chin rest, right. Exquisite sonority throughout all positions of four strings. Floral inlaid tail piece, believed to be original, and original pegs. Recently adjusted for sound. Warm, penetrating sound, "player's" violin; dealers, listeners, players concur. Violin appraised $4200. Also, bow, unstamped, regarded as French, circa 1880, 58 grams, round stick, pernambuco, pulls marvelous clear sound. Bow appraised $2400. Open to best offer for either item or as package deal.

Except some scratches, it is in solid condition and has mature, open, sweet and beautiful sound. The back of the violin has beautiful flame.
