I have owned and played this instrument on and off for the last four years. However, recent shoulder problems have meant that it has not been used much of late. This factory made 16” viola has a solid spruce top and maple back and ribs. Described by the makers (Shimro) as hand made, it is in perfect condition. It is dated 1995. It was specially selected FROM a number of similar instruments for its subtle but full tone, and then improved and set up by the Violin Shop in Glasgow with Thomastik Dominant strings and French Aubert bridge. Excellent condition except for a small nick near the tailpiece that does not detract FROM it's value. A hard shell case, wood/hh bow, rosin, mute and extra bridge are included. O.L. Fraser violin, bow and case. Appraised at Loveland Violin Shop, August 27th, 2002 reads as follows: The violin bears its maker's brand "O.L. Fraser" of Saginaw, Michigan circa 1910-1920. The back is of two pieces of maple with narrow horizontal flames. The sides and neck are of maple similar to the back. The top is of two pieces of very fine, even grain spruce. The varnish is a dark brown over a golden ground. Measurements: Length: 35.9 cm. Width U.B. 16.8 cm Width M.B. 11.6 cm. Width L.B. 21.0 cm. The present market value of this American made violin in excellent condition is $3500. Violin bow, unstamped German ca. 1900, $500. E-mail for photos.
